Khartung prend forme fin 2006, lorsque les expérimentations électroniques de Renaud Carton rencontrent l’univers singulier de 4 instrumentistes de talent. De cette fusion renaît une musique originale aux sonorités hybrides; Alors que les machines tissent, les instruments mutent ; le saxophone s’électronise, la basse se texturiffie, les percussions se sonicalisent et la batterie samplifie. Basée tantôt sur l'expérimentation collective, tantôt sur un travail plus précis d'écriture, Khartung propose aujourd’hui un set électronique, acoustique, dense et souvent dansant. Depuis peu rejoins par un sixième compagnon, le live s’ouvre sur une nouvelle dimension visuelle.

Le premier EP du groupe, le "Live EP", autoproduit est sorti en octobre, avant que Khartung ne rejoigne Spank !

When electronic crashes into free jazz… Khartung is a Brussels based quintet mixing electronic and acoustic music. Formed in 2006-2007, the project emerged from the encounter between the electronic experimentations of Renaud Carton and the eclectic musical approaches of four other instrumentalists. With a particular line-up – mpc, drums, percussions, bass and sax – Khartung delivers an intense organic music where written sequences crash into deep improvisations. The music lives within the context of electronic beats and samples, crushing acoustic sounds, and offers to the audience a frenetic dancing music but... with a special acoustic touch. Recently, the original line-up widened to a sixth companion and opened the music to a new visual dimension.  In 2008, after concerts and festivals all around Belgium, Khartung released a first self-produced ep "LIVE" and recently entered the Spank Me More family !

Somewhere at the close border of the known & unknown world, maybe there, the Black Country, precisely where Joseph Conrad, the famous writer, wanted to conduce us, in his novel "the heart of darkness". We join the karthung sonic odyssey, a boat trip on a dark and wild river, hearing deep beats & delighted samples, produced by Reno, discussing with some analogic inspired instruments, in a perfect excitation ; with wonderful sax tenor by Pierrot screaming like a Stan Getz bossa, Orfeo negro walking in Brazil, exciting percussions by Phil, drums by Alain and of course bass by Kyrill, we go trough elephants, voodoo shadows hidden behind the monstrous trees, full of tribal ancient fears all around, in a carnavalesque barroco atmosphere, an LSD magnetic journey. Making all of this, a 'free jazz' session mixed with great electro-bass, the whole shit getting us in a timeless ethnic jungle. So you know how, when and what you decide to leave, but for sure never when you will be back... And that’s all I wish for you, with Khartung's brilliant music, definitively & completely original blend, you have to taste. Right now...
